With 20+ years of individual and classroom teaching experience, and as a graduate of the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati (CCM) in Jazz Studies, Tom offers an inspired approach to childhood-adult musical instruction. His highly recommended music tutoring business is based in Princeton, NJ, and instructs motivated students in Piano, Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute, Jazz Improvisation, Ensemble Playing, and Composition .
Tom is currently teaching in-person as well as online lessons. He has taught online lessons to students around the world since 2011. On March 13th, 2020 his entire lesson studio moved to online formats. Lessons online have been fun and productive. Tom’s recommended online teaching formats include: Zoom, Skype, Google Hangouts, and FaceTime. He uses video and audio editing, digital formats, and pre-recorded audio and video presentations, to create a fun and enriching online lessons experience. Tom’s instruction is gentle and inspiring, and is customized to each student’s individual needs. In addition to the fundamentals of music, technique, reading, and interpretation, students have the opportunity to explore varied musical styles including, classical, jazz, improvisation, pop, rock, theory, and composition.
He is an experienced, band director, high school and college clinician, and was an artist faculty member at Mercer County College, teaching lessons and ensembles from 1999 through 2006. He also taught at The Westminster Conservatory in Princeton, NJ.
Tom is a piano teacher to children and adult students on the Autism Spectrum, and has worked with the Princeton Child Development Institute (PCDI) since 2005. He also teaches piano and woodwinds at The Princeton Junior School.
He is founding director of The Central New Jersey Homeschool Bands, which provides home-schooled students the opportunity to rehearse and perform in musical ensembles. The Central NJ Homeschool Bands are designed to give homeschool students the opportunity to practice and perform with other musicians, using personally arranged secular and sacred music styles.
